Sharing the anti-pork mood of Manila’s #MillionPeopleMarch in Rizal Park, about 100 300 Ilocanos (according to police estimate) meet up at the Laoag Aurora Park in the heart of Ilocos Norte on National Heroes’ Day.
Up north where political dynasties have ruled for decades, it is the first time we’ve ever witnessed a spontaneous public display of emotions towards pork barrel politics. Teachers, student leaders, doctors, businessmen, and the average Juans took turns at the microphone and let it all out against stinking epalitics. It all boils down to “walang baboyan.”
If it’s a sign of maturity, it’s a good sign that a ray of hope is not far behind the Filipinos’ struggle against crookedness.
